10 key questions to ask before ordering a corporate website
Questions we think you should ask yourself right from the start
After more than ten years of working on web projects, we’ve seen all kinds of situations.
Clients who got exactly what they needed. Clients who got something completely different from what was promised.
Websites costing a few hundred euro. Websites costing tens of thousands.
And one thing almost never changes - most people are ordering a website for the first or second time in their lives and don’t know what questions to ask beforehand.
1. A beautiful design is not a strategy
One of the first things clients see is the design. And that’s perfectly normal.
The problem is that even the most beautiful website in the world won’t help much if the visitor doesn’t understand what you’re offering, why they should choose you, and how to contact you. Design is important, but it’s a means to an end, not the end itself.
2. A domain and hosting aren’t a website
You often see ads like: “Free domain and hosting.”
It sounds great, but the domain is the address. Hosting is where the website is stored - it’s not the website itself.
It’s like buying a plot of land and saying the house is ready.
3. Ask what happens after launch
Many offers end the moment the website goes live. For us, that’s when the real work begins.
Who will handle updates?
Who will monitor security?
Who will create backups?
Who will respond if a problem arises?
These are questions worth asking in advance.
4. Will you be able to manage the website yourself?
This is one of our favorite questions, because after a few months, almost every business needs to make some changes.
A new service. A new photo. A new article. A new product.
Ask if you’ll have an admin panel and if you’ll receive training on how to use it. A well-built website shouldn’t require a programmer for every edit.
5. Cheap isn’t always the best deal
We’re not saying that the most expensive option is the best, but we’re also not saying that cheap is necessarily bad.
When comparing quotes, look at what’s actually included in them.
Sometimes the price difference isn’t in the design, but in maintenance, security, training, and future development.
6. The website must be able to grow along with your business
Today, you may need a corporate website.
A year from now, an online store.
Two years from now, integration with an internal system.
Ask whether the project allows for future development, or if you’ll have to start from scratch down the line.
7. Content is more important than you think
Many people spend weeks choosing colors and hours on the text.
The truth is that visitors come for the information, and good content sells more than pretty animations.
8. SEO isn’t a button
If someone promises you the top spot on Google in a few days, ask more questions.
SEO is a process. It begins with building the site’s structure and continues long after the site goes live.
9. AI is an assistant, not a replacement for your business
We use AI every day. It’s an incredible tool, but it still can’t understand your business the way you do. Nor can it make strategic decisions for you.
That’s why the best results come when technology and human expertise work together.
10. Choose people you’d still call a year from now
Ultimately, a website is a piece of technology, but projects are always about people.
Ask questions. Talk. Get a sense of whether the other side understands your business.
Because a year from now, you probably won’t remember what the initial proposal looked like, but you’ll remember whether you received support when you needed it.
A good website isn’t just an expense.
It’s an investment in how your business looks, communicates, and operates online. So don’t choose based solely on price, design, or promises. Choose a solution that will still be useful a year from now.
And the best question you can ask right from the start is: “What will I be able to do with my website once it’s ready?”
The answer to this question often says more than the entire proposal.
